Tom Dwan
Tom Dwan was born in 1986 in New Jersey and is one of the youngest professional poker players currently making noise on the poker circuit. Before Tom started playing poker seriously he went to the University of Boston where he was taking a major in English. Dwan never finished his major though and dropped out in order to spend more time playing poker.
Dwan has been playing online poker since he was seventeen and has amassed quite the fortune through playing cash games online, but it didn’t start like this. Tom started his online poker journey with only a $50 bankroll and he started by playing $5 S&G tournaments. Tom started winning small amounts of money at these tables and then moved up to low limit cash games where he started winning more money. Tom has continued to move up stakes and he now plays in the biggest online poker games that can be found on Full Tilt Poker.
Almost every night you can find some professional poker players on the high stakes table at Full Tilt playing against each other for all hours of the night. Tom has gained some recognition from the poker world for being involved in the biggest online poker pots in history. Tom is a very loose and aggressive poker player who loves putting the pressure on his opponents rather then have the pressure on him. According to certain poker stats tracking websites Tom Dwan earned just over five million in 2008 by playing online poker at Full Tilt Poker which is more then most people will make in a lifetime and Tom is still very young.
Tom Dwan doesn’t have much live tournament experience yet, but that’s because he’s still very young and only starting his poker career. Tom has finished twice in the money on the WSOP circuit, twice on the WPT circuit and once on the EPT circuit. Tom has also made one final table in live tournament thus far which was when he finished fourth in the WPT World Poker Finals 2007.
Tom has appeared on multiple poker television shows already as well including the NBC National Heads-Up Championships and Poker After Dark. I’m sure Dwan will receive many more invites in the future if he can continue his success at the poker tables, but from what I have seen so far this young poker player has the skills to become one of the best poker players in history.
Most recently Tom Dwan has made poker headlines with his challenge to some of the most experienced poker players in the world. The challenge is to play 50,000 hands of poker against Dwan and the winner at the end of the 50,000 hands would get to keep the money won. To make the deal sweeter though Dwan has offered the players he challenged an extra $1 million if they beat him after the hands are played. Phil Ivey, Barry Greenstein of PokerStars.com and Patrick Antonius have already accepted the challenge and it’s currently underway.
